Frequently Asked Questions
How do nudges work?
ActuallyDoIt uses local notifications and Live Activities to remind you about your tasks based on the schedules and nudge times you set. Everything is scheduled on your device — make sure notifications are enabled for the app in Settings → Notifications.
Where is my data stored?
All of your tasks and settings are stored locally on your device. If you're signed in to iCloud, they sync between your own devices through your private iCloud. Nothing is sent to us or to any other server.
Shared lists are the exception: their contents are visible to, and editable by, the people you share them with. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I share a list?
Only the person sharing a list needs ActuallyDoIt Plus; the people you invite don't.
- Invite people: in the Tasks tab, open a list (or create one with New list), tap the More (…) button and choose Invite people. Send the invitation however you like. The people you invite need ActuallyDoIt and an iCloud account to join.
- Stop sharing: open the list, tap More → Manage sharing and choose Stop Sharing. Deleting a list you shared removes it for everyone.
- Leave a list: if someone shared a list with you, open it, tap More → Leave list. Everyone else keeps it.
How do I import from Apple Reminders?
In ActuallyDoIt, go to Settings → Import from Reminders and choose the Reminders lists to bring over. Each incomplete reminder becomes a task, with its list name as a tag. It's a one-time copy: your reminders are never changed, and later changes in Reminders don't carry over. Running the import again only adds reminders it hasn't copied before.
I'm not receiving notifications
Check that notifications are allowed for ActuallyDoIt in the iOS Settings app, that Focus/Do Not Disturb isn't silencing them, and that you've set nudge times for your tasks. If you have a lot of tasks, you may also be hitting the iOS notification limit. If problems persist, email us and we'll help troubleshoot.
Why do some tasks stop getting new notifications?
iOS only lets an app have 64 notifications scheduled at any one time. Anything past that is silently discarded by the system, so ActuallyDoIt shares that limit out carefully rather than letting iOS decide what gets dropped:
- Every task due today gets at least one reminder first, in priority order — tasks due soonest come first, then those with a higher nudge intensity.
- Any room left over goes to the extra nudges of your highest-priority tasks.
- If there are still more tasks than will fit, you'll get a single “More tasks due today” notification instead of one per task.
“Before due” alerts and location reminders also count towards the limit, so each is capped (the soonest alerts and highest-priority location tasks are kept).
So if you have a lot of tasks due, lower-priority ones may get fewer nudges — or only appear in the summary. To get them back, complete or reschedule some tasks, lower the nudge intensity on less important ones (which also moves the ones you care about up the list). Opening the app reschedules everything straight away; iOS may otherwise wait a while before refreshing reminders in the background.
ActuallyDoIt Plus
What is ActuallyDoIt Plus?
ActuallyDoIt Plus is an optional upgrade that adds:
- Quick add: create a fully set-up task by typing a sentence.
- Brain dump: a daily journal page that suggests tasks from what you write.
- Goals: group tasks towards one goal with a shared deadline.
- Shared lists: share a list with other people.
- Siri & Shortcuts: find, complete and focus tasks with Siri, Shortcuts and Apple Intelligence.
You can subscribe monthly or yearly, both with a one-month free trial, or pay once for a lifetime purchase. The free trial is available once, on either plan. All three unlock the same features, and everything else in ActuallyDoIt stays free. Find it in the app under Settings → ActuallyDoIt Plus.
How do I restore, manage or cancel a purchase?
- Restore: in the app, go to Settings → ActuallyDoIt Plus and tap Restore purchase, signed in with the Apple Account you bought Plus with.
- Manage or cancel: tap Manage subscription on the same screen, or go to Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions on your device. Cancel at least 24 hours before the plan renews. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Yearly, paid monthly: if you pay for the yearly plan in monthly instalments, it's a 12-month commitment. Cancelling stops it renewing for another year; it doesn't stop the remaining monthly payments for the current year.
- Family Sharing: the subscriptions and the lifetime purchase support Family Sharing, so if you share purchases with your family, they get Plus too.
- Offer codes: tap Redeem code on the ActuallyDoIt Plus screen and enter your code.
I bought Lifetime but I'm still being charged for my subscription
Buying ActuallyDoIt Plus Lifetime doesn't cancel an existing monthly or yearly subscription. Apple handles subscriptions, so you need to cancel it yourself. Go to Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions, select ActuallyDoIt, and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep Plus after cancelling, because Lifetime never expires.
If you were charged for a renewal after buying Lifetime, you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do tips work?
In the app, Settings → Support the developer lets you leave an optional one-off tip through Apple's in-app purchase system. Tips are separate from ActuallyDoIt Plus and don't unlock anything — they're just a way to say thanks. Purchases are handled securely by Apple.
